Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing, widely known as Leslie Cheung, was one of Hong Kong's most iconic actors and singers. Born on September 12, 1956, in Kowloon, Hong Kong, the entertainer had a career that spanned over three decades. He was not just remembered for his talents, but also for his androgynous persona and flamboyant style.
Cheung was dubbed "the Elvis of Hong Kong" by his fans, but he was much more than that. He started off as a singer in the 1970s and released his first album, The Wind Blows, in 1977. He then turned to acting and made his debut in the TV drama The Legend of the Condor Heroes in 1976. Cheung became a household name after his role as Cho-wai in the TV series The Duke of Mount Deer in 1984.
