The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday that is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. It is a time when people come together to honor the memory of the great poet Qu Yuan and to enjoy the exciting dragon boat races. Today, I would like to share with you the significance of the Dragon Boat Festival and how it is celebrated.

The Dragon Boat Festival has a history of over 2,000 years and is deeply rooted in Chinese culture. It is believed to have originated from the legend of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet from the Warring States period. Qu Yuan was a loyal minister who was banished by the king due to political intrigue. Devastated by the state of his country, he drowned himself in the Miluo River. The local people, who admired and respected Qu Yuan, raced their boats to the spot where he drowned in an attempt to save him. They also threw rice dumplings into the river to prevent the fish from eating his body. These traditions have been passed down through generations and have become an integral part of the Dragon Boat Festival.
